Enhanced Supplier Qualification During Product Design and Development Phase with CQ

At ComplianceQuest, we continuously enhance CQ ProductQuest, our PLM solution, to streamline key processes in the product design and development stage of a product’s journey.

CQ’s latest update introduces powerful Supplier Qualification features in the CQ Supplier Module, which is fully integrated with our PLM and Design Quality modules.

In this blog, we highlight these new capabilities/features and detail how this will help engineering, procurement, and quality teams qualify, monitor, and collaborate with suppliers more efficiently than ever before, especially during the critical product design and development phase.

What’s New? Enhancements to Supplier Management Functionality within PLM

1. Automated Supplier Pre-Qualification Workflows

Eliminate manual inefficiencies with automated supplier pre-qualification workflows, ensuring that prospective new suppliers meet regulatory, quality, and compliance requirements before onboarding. With pre-configured checklists and risk-based assessments, businesses can streamline the evaluation process, accelerating the speed at which new suppliers can be evaluated, which in turn will reduce the time-to-market of new product development.

With CQ’s integrated SupplierQuest + ProductQuest Solution, it becomes easy to qualify, re-qualify, and onboard suppliers right from the product design and development phase.

2. Seamless Integration of Supplier Processes with PLM and Design Quality

Supplier qualification is no longer an isolated process. With seamless integration into PLM and Design Quality, engineering and procurement teams can collaborate effectively to ensure that supplier-provided components meet product design requirements and regulatory standards. This integration reduces the risk of design-related supplier issues and ensures product robustness right from the design and development phase.

3. Manage Supplier Data More Seamlessly

In our latest product release, CQ has strengthened the “integration” between Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Supplier Management by introducing seamless data synchronization and expanded part qualification capabilities. The Manufacturer Parts and Suppliers tabs in PLM now align directly with Supplier Accounts. This integration allows users to manage critical supplier and manufacturing data in either workspace, eliminating redundant data entry and saving valuable time.

Previously, PLM allowed teams to identify the manufacturer of a part within a Qualification Card associated with a part or assembly. With this release, we have expanded the qualification card to now include:

  • Manufacturer’s Process Details
  • Process Steps
  • PFMEA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis)
  • Control Plan

This added visibility is essential for design and development teams, providing comprehensive insight as parts move from development to market.

Access to the manufacturer’s details, defined processes, risk assessments, and control plans ensures that each part’s production pathway is well-documented and risk-managed.

Key Enhancements:

  • Enhanced PLM for Supplier and Manufacturer Part Management: Streamlined handling of supplier and manufacturer part records, with improved visibility into a supplier’s manufacturing site details.
  • Improved Part Qualification: Greater visibility into manufacturing processes, risk assessments, and control plans, strengthening PLM’s support for quality assurance and compliance.

These improvements empower teams to make data-driven decisions within the PLM workspace, ensuring robust supplier and process management throughout the product design and development phase.

4. Supplier Identification & Onboarding

a. Supplier Record Enhancements

  • Centralize all supplier-related information—such as name, type, location, and critical documents—for accurate, real-time access.
  • Support multiple suppliers under a single account, streamlining supplier relationships and data management.

b. Supplier Qualification Process (Parts & Processes, by Location)

Rebranded and enhanced in our latest release, the Supplier Qualification feature allows for more efficient supplier qualification and assessment.

  • Qualify or disqualify suppliers based on specific criteria for parts, services, and processes, ensuring optimal supplier selection.
  • Perform a bulk part and process qualifications to manage multiple items simultaneously.
  • Change Qualification Status workflow reduces manual effort, enabling bulk updates for parts and processes.
  • Tailor qualifications by part, process, or location for enhanced flexibility.
  • Real-time qualification tracking ensures visibility into supplier status, empowering faster, data-driven decisions.
  • Structured displays for qualification cards, default screen layouts, and lifecycle management support data integrity and streamlined workflows within PLM.

5. Supplier Qualification Review (Go/No-Go)

a. Streamlined Review Process

  • New “Review Required” checkbox for tasks enables an optional review setup.
  • Simplified task submission—no need for assignees to select “Go” or “No-Go.”

b. Enhanced Workflow Flexibility

  • Supports dynamic reviewer assignment with default fallbacks.
  • Tasks move efficiently from “Open” to “Ready” for review.

c. Reviewer Options

  • Approve: Moves workflow step to “Complete” status.
  • Reject: Step completes; Supplier Qualification set to “On Hold.”
  • Request Rework: Step reopens for further action.

d. Date Tracking Enhancements

  • New Submission Date and Completion Date fields enable precise task timeline visibility.

6. Risk-Based Supplier Qualification Framework

With an AI-driven risk assessment model, the CQ Supplier Module now evaluates suppliers based on multiple factors, including historical performance, regulatory compliance, financial stability, and operational capacity.

This risk-based approach helps companies select and qualify suppliers who align with their quality and sustainability goals.

7. Centralized Supplier Audit and Compliance Tracking

Maintain real-time visibility into supplier audits and compliance statuses with a centralized audit management system. Automate scheduling, documentation, and tracking to ensure adherence to quality, environmental, and industry-specific regulations.

8. Digital Supplier Scorecards and Performance Insights

Get real-time insights into supplier quality, responsiveness, and delivery performance through enhanced scorecards, helping procurement and quality leaders make data-driven qualification decisions.

9. Automated Corrective Action and Continuous Improvement

Trigger automated CAPA workflows when supplier-related issues arise, ensuring quick resolution and continuous improvement across your supply chain.

Why do these Features Matter? Supplier Quality has a direct impact on Product Quality.

Supplier qualification is a critical step in ensuring product quality and compliance. By embedding supplier qualification directly into PLM and Design Quality workflows during the design and development phase, ComplianceQuest empowers organizations to:

  • Enhance product robustness by ensuring component and material quality from the start.
  • Accelerate time-to-market with streamlined supplier onboarding and qualification.
  • Reduce supply chain risks through proactive supplier performance monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with global regulations and industry standards.
