Building Future-Ready Quality Systems in a Rapidly Evolving Healthcare Landscape

For Nathan Reed, quality and compliance have always been about creating structure, consistency, and operational maturity in environments where standards, regulations, and customer expectations continue evolving.

Nathan’s journey into quality began through work with an accreditation body focused on ISO certifications, FDA standards, and regulatory compliance. Early in his career, he saw firsthand how quality systems could influence organizational performance, accountability, and operational effectiveness.

“I saw very early how profound an effect a strong electronic quality management system can have on an organization,” Nathan explains.

That experience shaped his perspective on modern quality leadership, and the role technology plays in enabling scalable quality operations.

Today, Nathan plays a key role in leading quality and compliance initiatives at Valeris, formed through the merger of Mercalis and PharmaCord. As the organization expanded and integrated operations across teams and systems, the need for a scalable and mature EQMS became increasingly important.

For Nathan, quality systems are not simply about maintaining compliance. They are about helping organizations mature operationally while meeting growing clients and regulatory expectations.

“We’re in a unique space where we support pharmaceutical organizations and their evolving expectations,” he says. “The more mature our quality systems become, the more we strengthen our position in the market.”

That mindset heavily influenced Valeris’s approach toward digital quality transformation.

The organization needed a platform capable of adapting alongside changing business requirements, evolving standards, and future growth.

“You need a system that grows and adapts with you to meet changing standards, regulations, and client expectations,” Nathan says.

As healthcare and life sciences organizations continue modernizing their operations, Nathan believes AI will play an increasingly important role in supporting quality teams.

Rather than replacing human expertise, he sees AI as a way to reduce repetitive administrative work and allow teams to focus on higher-value quality activities.

“AI should handle the repetitive work so quality teams can focus on the bigger concepts that truly need human attention,” he explains.

For Nathan, the future of quality management lies in helping teams spend less time managing manual processes and more time focusing on investigations, decision-making, and continuous improvement.

He believes the next generation of quality leaders must think beyond compliance alone and focus on building adaptable systems that evolve alongside the business.

“The industry changes. Client expectations change. Regulations change,” he says. “Quality leaders need systems that evolve alongside them.”

Through his leadership, Nathan continues to advocate for scalable and adaptable quality systems that help organizations navigate operational complexity while supporting long-term growth and quality maturity.
