Savannah Walker is passionate about helping people find more natural and holistic ways to improve their health. After graduating from college, Walker worked in a pharmacy, where she was struck by how many people didn’t take responsibility for their health. “After being accepted into a master’s program for Pharmaceutical Sciences, I discovered an interest in the natural and holistic aspects of medicine. I wanted to find out how I could help people in an industry that didn’t have a big pharma attitude. ”

Walker, who began as a Quality Specialist at NuLeaf Naturals, was quickly promoted to Quality Leader in this exciting industry. “I’ve been fortunate to see both sides of regulation. I’ve been learning about the FDA, how to run clinical trials, and the stricter aspects of pharmaceutical processing and chemistry in school.”

For Walker, no two days are alike, and the challenge of bringing the structure she is learning about in school to NuLeaf’s Naturals quality operations is an exciting one. As with many start-ups, NuLeaf’s Naturals quality system was paper-based. Walker saw the importance of moving to an electronic quality system that integrated with the company’s Salesforce CRM and Rootstock ERP.

After months of research, she selected ComplianceQuest, an eQMS based on the Salesforce platform, as a perfect fit to improve upon their existing operations and infrastructure. As a leader who fearlessly embraces technology, Walker self-implemented most of the ComplianceQuest modules. It takes a lot of confidence to jump into new technologies, and Walker embraced every aspect of the challenge. “I really enjoy learning something new, developing a core competence, and using that knowledge to go to the next level.”

Walker, who learned a lot about the backend of Salesforce when launching the company’s ERP, discovered that the principles of implementation with ComplianceQuest were quite similar. “I took a very large role in this so we could build a solid foundation and have fun in the system.”

The project increased Walker’s confidence in the entire scope of the QMS as everything is in one place. “I now have a 10,000 foot view, which has allowed me to step back and move proactively versus reactively.”

Her advice to others looking to improve is never to get discouraged. Quality is the process of continual improvement, and it’s sometimes difficult to improve when the target is moving.

What motivates Walker the most is her love of helping people. “It’s so important that people are given a quality product. Over the years, I have become a more conscious consumer and people need to know that they’re getting the quality they expect and need.”
